ExeLock Express will take any Windows program and lock it with a password.  Once the program is locked it cannot be run without the password.

Selecting an executable to protect Locking a program is very simple;

  1. Run ExeLock Express (ExeLockX)
  2. Select the program you wish to password protect.
  3. Enter the password you wish to use (twice to ensure accuracy).
  4. Lock and Test the program.

When you installed ExeLockX it placed two shortcuts to run it on your computer.  One of these is on your desktop, the other is in your Start menu.

Run ExeLockX and press the Browse button to look for the file you want to protect.  Once you have selected the file press the Protect button to continue.

You will be prompted for a password.  Enter it twice to ensure you have entered it accurately.  Press Next to continue.

A progress bar will display while the program is being processed.  When processing is complete a Test button will be shown.  Press this button to run the program and test the password protection.

Unlocking a program is very similar to locking.  Simply run ExeLockX, select the program to unlock, press the Restore button and continue.  You will be prompted for the password to the program.  It is impossible to unlock a program without the correct password.


Important things to remember:

  • After the program is locked, you cannot run it without the password.  We cannot help you if you lose the password.
  • It is possible to remove the password protection from the program, but you must have the password to unlock it.
  • There is nothing to prevent the program being replaced with another copy of the same program that has not been ExeLocked assuming 1)You have adequate access to the computer to do so and 2)You have a copy of the program that is not locked.
  • The password protection operates on executable programs only, not data files.
  • ExeLock Express is a free demo of ExeLock technology.  This technology allows you to encrypt, compress and wrap any Windows program or executable file.  Capabilities of ExeLock include producing trialware with limited numbers of days or uses, fixed expiration dates, and unlock/purchase options.  Valid targets for ExeLock include all .exe, .dll, .ocx and .scv files.  For more information on ExeLock visit the StratusBurg's ExeLock web page.
  • You will notice that processing a program with ExeLock Express makes it a little smaller.  The compression available with the full ExeLock technology is typically much greater.
